Thank you, Kiku, for having a site that refutes, "The Boys' Club." I began playing at age 9 & practiced,
competed, was 1st chair for most of my school days before college. However, as you probably found, popular w/guys I was not. After earning scholarships,& after proving I could keep up w/univ. guys or best them, they changed their minds. I am 49 yrs. young & still play actively for many events, groups, alumni bands, etc.
Congratulations for all of your accomplishments.
You go, girl!

Hi Kiku!!! I'm a teenage female trumpet player and I just love listening to your album. You are the my true role model! My trumpet teacher, also a female gave me a magazine ad with you saying "Who says trumpets are for boys?" and ever since then I've been non-stop listening to your music. I know exactly what I want to do with music, it's my true passion. I only ever want to spend my time doing something music related. THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU'RE AMAZING!!!!

June 9, 2008

i bought your cd a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to tell you it's good. flugelhorn is not an instrument you hear much in jazz....chuck mangione was the last and only major jazz flugelhornist...your sound is tight, with a nice tone. you have good control over your instrument...but i didn't listen to the cd just for reasearch. i'm writing a book about jazz, and one of the characters in my novel is a female trumpet player, so i've been listening to your stuff andf other female jazz trumpeters....keep up the good work...

April 23, 2008

Hi, Kiku. I was online reading reviews/articles about different kinds of horns and came across your website. I admire your beautifully rich and full tone and technique. I agree that the trumpet is a "high maintenance significant other" (I just got back into Arban and Gordon myself), and I can empathize with you about the ebbs and flows of "the biz." But, you are blessed with some good gigs and clearly you are so blessed by your little one -- that comes through so loud and clear. It's great to know that a "hapa" sister is out there mixing it up on the trumpet in the music mainstream. Keep up the great work, and best of best wishes for continued success, Kiku. - Herbie from sunny Southern California

Your music is wonderful. I am so glad I was exposed to you. I cannot wait to hear you live. DO ya thang girl!

Rey Guerrero

February 21, 2008

Hi there, my name's Rey and I'm a band director/(gigging musician)from El Paso, TX. I've recently been turned on to your music while attending a convention in San Antonio. I have two outstanding female trumpet players that feel so insecure about being the "only" girls playing trumpet in my middle school band. I picked up a couple of your Getzen posters for them and for my band room to inspire them and I asked them to look you up online and now they're hooked as well. You're an extremely talented musician and amazingly beautiful woman! I hope you make it out this way to perform sometime. Hope to hear from ya soon!

February 3, 2008

I have seen Le Scandal a few times and always enjoy it, but last Saturday was a real treat with you on stage. Please tell me you will be there from now on, and I will be returning every week! Very impressive playing, not just for a beautiful young lady but for any trumpet player out there.

February 3, 2008

Dude, so true re the freelancing. I (and every other freelance I know) go through the same trials and tribulations.

December was so quiet, and I got a ton of non-work stuff while I was trying not to fret about dwindling bank accounts.

Then January rolled around, and I've had more than I can handle. That's normal ups and downs, from what I hear.

During down times, I try to make sure I reach out to at least 5 different people every day to prospect for new work. It's a numbers game, and it works! That contributed to the explosion of projects I've had since the new year started.

Keep the faith and know that it will be busy again. That way you can enjoy your quieter times and get all those other projects done that we never seem to have time to do. :)
